What’s A Good Amplifier That I Can Hook Up To My Laptop So I Can Play Music Through Floor Speakers?

I want to play music from my laptop through large speakers for a party. I’m assuming I need an amp as the middle man since I can’t hook up the speakers directly to my laptop.

You can buy adapters from Radio Shack that will change the headphone output of your laptop (which is a tip-ring-sleeve connection) into a rca connection or quarter inch or basically whatever kind of connection you need to plug it directly into you home stereo system. I have mine converted to rca and plugged into the tape player section of my stereo and it works and sounds great.

for my computer i have a cambridge audio A1 mark 3 (A1 mk3) which has worked well for me for ages and its been playing music for ages from a computer output to photo lead.
Just get a good quality one with selective inputs, most separate system amplifiers will have this option.
Your right that you can’t really hook up speakers with any sort of power without a pre amp.
Alternatively you could get a good set of speakers with an internal amp – though for a party these would probably not be suitable.

Check the wattage rating of the speakers. The part that say “xxx RMS”. Then get an amp that matches OR IS UNDER that.
eg. if your speakers are a combined total of 100 watts RMS, get an amp that is 70 watts RMS. DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO ANYTHING THAT SAYS PEAK. That’s very important.
Alternatively, just use or borrow a stereo, take a line out of the headphone out on your laptop into the aux input on the stereo, select that input on the stereo and off you go.
    Have a good party.
